Elementary Students in Redmond, Oregon, Will Lead Way to Better Health Thanks to Nutrition Education Grant
Students at Tom McCall Elementary school in Redmond, Oregon, will return to school this fall to find themselves leaders in an innovative nutrition and fitness program, thanks to a $5,000 grant by the Nutrition Education Services/Oregon Dairy Council. The Council selected the program from among eight applicants statewide. Teachers Heather Renz and Judy Shasek developed the program to empower Renzs 4th grade class to create and take charge of their own health activities. This is the first year the grant has been awarded, with the goal of encouraging teachers to help students make positive health behavior changes for themselves, their families, and other students.
